Our new concept in shipboard entertainment aboard Holland America Line is the new “Showroom At Sea”. The centerpiece of this new entertainment lineup is a musical repertory company, showcasing singers from two distinct vocal styles, one operetta/legitimate musical theatre and the other Broadway/contemporary pop, as well as dancers and a musical comedy actor. Various combinations of performers appear each night… from two classical singers backed by a 14-piece orchestra, to a four man pop/rock doo-wop group on a street corner, to a singing host and his guests in a fictitious Vegas nightclub, to an ensemble for the ultimate Broadway tribute.  Please check out the "Showroom At Sea" page audition for requirements.

AUDITION TIP of the month:  Dress the Part!
Ladies: If you want to sell your body, then dress with short tight skirts, spike heels and plunging necklines.  If you want to sell your professional ability to perform, then dress like a professional.  A “safe” dress that falls just over the knees is an effective choice. Think: “Classic Leading Lady.”  
Gents: Leave the earrings at home.  If you have visible tattoos, cover them up.  Think: “Leading Man”, “All American”, “Guy Next Door.”   If you wear it to the gym or to the Mall, it’s probably not appropriate for an audition.  
All Singers:  Bring dance clothes with you.  Never audition as a Singer in your Dance Clothes. First Impressions are HUGE, especially when we spend, at the most, 5 minutes with each of you.
Dancers:  Show your Body!  No baggy clothes, and ALWAYS bring your dance shoes….all types of dance shoes.

We are getting ready for our upcoming Los Angeles Showroom at Sea audition on July 11th. We look forward to seeing talented legit/opera style singers, as well as contemporary singers with Broadway and National Tour credits. Of course we’re also on the lookout for tall showgirls for this new show format.  In addition we're holding general auditions on July 25 here in Los Angeles where we hire great talent for our spectacular production shows on the other 10 ships.  Meanwhile, we’ve been busy planning our 2011 Audition Tour.  We are excited to be returning to Vancouver, B.C. Canada and Hershey, PA next year!  Also, we will be heading across the pond to London twice in 2011.  For those of you with friends in the Eastern time zone we are adding Myrtle Beach, SC; Branson, MO; and Cincinnati, OH! Please let them know to stop in and share their talent with us.  Of course, once all the dates and venues are locked in, they will be posted on our website!
 
We are happy to announce our “Casting Matrix” has been updated on our website.  Please remember, shows and dates are subject to change and let's be honest, they probably will.
 
Our Nieuw Amsterdam inaugural cast is now in Italy rehearsing and getting their fabulous new shows ready for the Inaugural Cruise set for July 4, 2010.  These “Nieuw” shows are sure to be crowd pleasers…”NYC”, “Cantare”, “Avalon”, “Ladies Night” and of course, “It Takes Two” and “Garage Band”.  We'll keep you posted on all of the opening night festivities.  To keep the studios busy, our Westerdam cast is in LA rehearsing.  Our Rotterdam and Veendam casts also arrive this month.  It will be a full house here at STILETTO, but that's the way we like it and we are very excited about all these talented singers and dancers.
  
Congratulations to our two photo winners this month:  Robyn Gayle and the Volendam Cast, and Mark Edwards and the Nieuw Amsterdam Cast.  The Volie picture was taken in front of the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia.  The Nieuw-A cast was clearly on a 'five' when their photo was shot during rehearsals in Italy….ha!   Please continue to send us your favorite pictures…..it’s so fun!  The winner’s picture will be in the next edition of OFFICE CHATTER and may end up on our website.  
 

As always, we are extremely busy here in the casting office, so we just want to remind all of our valued veterans that with the 8-month contracts, coupled with the “Showroom At Sea” featuring the legit/opera style singers (soon to be on five of our ships) it will take effort on everyone's part, but if we can and you want to, we'll try to book each of you on back-to-back contracts.  Of course, we will always do our best to place you where you desire, so please be patient with us! Please remember, all dates and shows are subject to change.
